Autodesk Forma splits early-stage project work into two main connected tools: Forma Site Design for broad location analysis and Forma Building Design for single-building schematic layout before moving to BIM.
- Focus: Early-stage planning, master-planning, and site feasibility.
- Site Setup: Pulls real-world terrain, roads from OpenStreetMap, and buildings from Overture into a geolocated canvas in minutes.
- Massing & Metrics: Provides volumetric sketching tools to test basic building masses, layouts, and floor heights while generating live gross area and density calculations.
- Environmental Analysis: Runs real-time, data-driven tests for sun hours, daylight, noise, wind patterns, and carbon impact.
- Collaboration: Connects with Forma Board to share alternatives and present data-backed planning choices to stakeholders.
- Focus: Schematic design exploration for specific blocks and plots before detailed modelling.
- Design Automation: Uses lightweight tools to easily add and edit facades, floor plans, unit mixes, windows, doors, and balconies.
- Performance Testing: Evaluates individual building performance—such as facade daylight potential and total carbon—directly in the cloud during design.
- Revit Integration: Exports finalized schematic concepts straight into Autodesk Revit as native, geolocated models to skip manual remodelling in later phases.
